SUMMER ACID TRIP

From New York to Paris, from London to Milan, runways have been crossed by fluorescent bags, shoes and belts. Sometimes I was under the impression that I was having an acid trip.

As for shapes, we've seen a triumph of big envelope clutches and shoulder bags long enough to hit your hip, in a very '70s Bohemian way.

A particular mention to Louis Vuitton, that with their China-inspired show proposed something truly original (well, not original tout cour, but compared to the other fashion shows of the season). The clothes were awesome and so the accessories:

And what's about this new version of Hermès' Kelly? I'm ready to leave for the beach with it!

BONJOUR LE PRINTEMPS!

Spring is here. Well, not climatologically (it's still pretty cold in Paris) but in a fashion kind of way.

The February issue of Paris Vogue is out and it's so colorful and totally SS 2011- oriented.

Starting by the cover, featuring Lara Stone in Gucci photographed by Mario Sorrenti.

This is also the latest issue with Carine Roitfeld as Editor in Chief, if we want to be nostalgic.

But we won't, so we concentrate instead on all the amazing pictures taken by Mario.

This is Freja Beha in a Viktor&Rolf look, styled by Jane How.
It's a concentrate of all the freshness and joy of a summer day. And the idea of that gigantic pearl necklace? Genial.

There she comes Joan Small in Fendi (styled by Jane How again).
The shooting went on in Southern Italy and this picture recalls the religious elements so present in Mario Soerrenti's work. She doesn't look a bit like the Chris, with that starfish crown and that pose?

Obviously, summer ads come along as well.
Loved the Hitchcockian atmosphere in the Bottega Veneta ad, our French national glory Laetitia Casta for Cavalli, Arizona Muse for YSL and the always gorgeous Daria Werbowy playing the skateboard kid for Céline.

A lots of ink was dedicated to the ballet word, in honor to Black Swan (don't forget that Rodarte's sister are behind those tutus). So, while waiting for an online lesson with Natalie Portman's trainer and ex-dancer Mary Helen Bowers on http://www.balletbeautiful.com/
here's the movie trailer for those who haven't seen it yet (is this possible?!)

ABOUT BEING CLEVER (SALES STRATEGY)

Let's put in bluntly from the beginning: I love sales. Who doesn't, by the way? I wait for them the whole year, for having the opportunity to take home some designer treasurer avoiding a hurricane Katrina's effect on my bank account. JBrand jeans at 50€, an Aickermann dress at 200€: Am I dreaming or what?

But, there's a but: sales were invented to make room for all the upcoming new season delicacies. Therefore, they come at the end of the season. When you have already bought what you really needed.

So, the problem are the following: Do you mind or you don't care about buying season hits that would be "hits" only for a couple of months?

I have adopted this strategy to solve this sales dilemma.

First of all, I take a look at the Pre-Fall usually released in the some period, to know what's gonna be still hot next fall (see previous post "Pre-Fall 2011 Review).

Examples: Aviator jackets proposed in the Givenchy Pre-Fall 2011 (left) aren't so different from the ones that walked the Burberry Fall 2010 show (right).

Brown and khaki, as for the '70s trend, will be must-to-have still in the Fall 2011.

Second strategy: buy timeless classics.

A gray sweater (Vanessa Bruno) and a black skirt (APC) putted together make a trendy winter look, but separately they are everyday basics.

Warning: sportswear will be totally out next winter. Wear it this spring is your last chance.

Same concept for the trousers (Uniqlo J+):

I've chosen them in Navy blue and Khaki, both to match a black cachemire sweater.

But, of course, I greet myself with some treats like these Christopher Kane shoes (-70% on luisaviaroma.com).

I'm reasonable but not beyond reason.

Have a good shopping you all!

SEQUIN CROCODILE

Briefing: Jean-Paul Gaultier is no longer the AD of Hermès (let's say unfortunately) and Christophe Lemaire took the job, so Felipe Oliveira Baptista was appointed as Lacoste's AD to replace him. All this in the past six months circa.

So, now it's time for the newcomers to show us what they're capable of.

No news from Hermès still, but we have the new Lacoste ad campaign.

There it is:

A smiling Liya Kebede and Anja Rubik pose for Mert&Marcus wearing the classic Lacoste t-shirt over a sequin dress. There's also a male version of the ad with Tom Ford's favorite Jon Kortajarena and Noah Mills wearing tees on a suit. The title is "Unconventional chic" and we expected something similar.

All this glamor to brush up the brand's image, not a reference of chic of any kind.

But, honestly, I'm under the impression they're trying too hard. A classic Lacoste polo shirt is always a polo shirt and by no means you can wear it over a sequin dress or a suit.
(I know it's just a commercial strategy to catch customers' attention and no one is telling us to go to Le Baron with a polo on our dress, but whatever, it's overkill).

I admire Baptista's work, V Magazine recently puts it among the rising young talents and I totally agree with that, so I have no doubt he will do a great job at Lacoste's.
But Lacoste is not Valentino and never will be, so, please, put those tees in the right place!
