FASHION DEJA-VU

I have to admit that I'm a bag-maniac. I love purses more than any other fashion item.
Yes, even more than shoes. So, I feel concerned any time a news about bags spreads out.
When I read that Givenchy's releasing in February a new bag line called "Obsedia", I rushed to see the pictures. And then... surprise! A fashion déjà-vu.
Don't you think this upcoming "Obsedia" looks like the good, old PS11?

SOUVENIRS, SOUVENIRS

Anna Selezneva, September 2008

Maybe still on the Carine's departure wave or simply in the end-of-year mood, Paris Vogue selected its best covers of the decade 2000-2010.

If you are, like me, a devoted reader, every cover will suggest you some memories, something good/bad/special that happened that very month of that very year.

Looking at these has been to me as travelling in a Time Machine.

Here the link for the complete selection:

Christy Turlington, August 2001 and Natasha Poly, May 2004

Sofia Coppola, Dec 2004-January 2005

DRESSING UP TIME

I'm sure that the time spent in front of the mirror seeking for something to wear during Christmas times is longer than the time spent eating (which is considerable, specially if you're in Italy).

And it will reach a pick on the December 31th evening, while getting ready for the New Year'Eve celebrations.
The Big Question wondering again and again in your head: What should I wear?

So, I've selected yet a few frocks I would be very glad to dress up in on NYE:

A LBD from Giambattista Valli to bring effortless chic also in 2011

I'll glamorize this Proenza Schouler dress with Balmain low boots and a touch of fur.

You have to wear something red, on NYE.
Better if it's from Givenchy.

A Christopher Kane cosmic dress.

No matter why, no matter when, Céline is always a good choice.

NB. All outfits are from the Cruise 2011 collections.

BYE BYE CARINE

Carine Roitfeld is leaving Paris Vogue.

I've never been a big Carine's fan, her style is a long way too sexy for me, but this doesn't mean that I don't recognize the importance and influence she had and still has in the business.

Over these 10 years, under her lead Paris Vogue has become one of the most influent magazines between all the international Vogue publications and not just the little brother of the omnipotent American Vogue.

The Masked Ball Vogue threw during the latest fashion week has been such a success, anyone who matters in the business was there and most important, happy to be there.

I had the pleasure to meet her in few occasions and she always was so kind and polite.

We don't know yet who is going to take her job or what else she's going to do, but in any case, I wish her good luck!

ZAC POSEN PRE-FALL 2011

How could a designer possibly make himself remarkable in this world overfull of fashion?

With outstanding clothes? Only with his talent?

Of course not.

With a cast full of super models and/or celebrities.

Zac Posen chose both these possibilities for his Pre-fall look-book, casting models as Hilary Rhoda, Anna Cleveland, Crystal Renn and the girl-about-town Leigh Lezark.

Ps. The clothes are gorgeous. But this is a plus.

SPRING CASTING

Spring campaigns start to be released, bringing some surprises.

Examples: a naked January Jones for Versace...

....the albino Stephen Thompson for Givenchy, starring with the 15 years-old Daphne Groeneveld

...Gisele Bundchen rocking Balenciaga...

... Arizona Muse replacing veteran Daria Werbowy for Yves Saint Laurent.

But the best of unexpected is the Marc Jacobs Campaign starring Masha Kirsanova and Caroline Brasch Nielsen shot by Juergen Teller backstage. Who needs a location anymore?

PRE-FALL 2011 REVIEW

Here we go, once again the "Around the world-of-the-collections in (less than) 80 days" journey has started.

We are still in the middle of your dated winter 2010 (fashion Pleistocene) and yet they talk about pre-fall 2011.

Judging by these tiny glimpses of future we are given, the next FW season will be:

- '70s inspired (Burberry and Gucci)

- Alexander Wang-esque (Thakoon)

- Dominated by pine green (Lanvin and Fendi)

- Fully skirted (Helmut Lang)

- "Floral is the new black" (Erdem)

(Balenciaga)

- Extravagant (3.1 Phillip Lim)

(Proenza Schouler)

JUMP(SUIT) AGAIN

The trend of jumpsuits on the red carpet seems to be in fashion again.

I'm not very fund of those frocks that look a bit like pijamas, but sometime jumpsuit lovers show me that I could (could, eh) be wrong.

Here below three illustrious exceptions:

Mena Suvari at the "Somewhere" première in Los Angeles, Tilda Swinton attending one of the Art Basel's party in Miami and Phoebe Philo at the British Fashion Awards.
